Thousands of Leones families visit the Main Square of Leon everyday and now they enjoy the exhibit of alebrijes and they can also play soccer in a court set up in front of City Hall.
With members of her Administration, Mayor Alejandra Gutierrez Campos went around the exhibit and spent time with families visiting and participating in activities programmed for the “Vive Leon” until April 24th.
Alejandra Gutierrez invited Leoneses to come and enjoy the cultural, sports and recreational events in downtown Leon and she said that these activities not only promote spending time with the family, but they also help the economic reactivation of Leon.
“We only want everybody to enjoy our city. We now have sports and cultural activities; and sport is really important because we want our children and adolescents to do positive activities”, said Alejandra Gutierrez.
In the Main Square visitors can see lighted alebrijes and also a monumental alebrije created by artists of the City’s Young Institute –IMJU- and the mascots of the local sports teams were very active in the games.
“Alebrijes are fantastic animals of the prehispanic culture (in what today is Mexico) and they are icons of Mexico. We want to strengthen the identity of our country and we do it with art and that is why we bet on presenting these figures” said Gersam Diaz an artista of IMJU.
