Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, led the closing ceremony of the 2nd International Congress for the Prevention of Addictions 2022 Planet Youth and announced the third edition of the event in 2023.
For three days, fathers and mothers, young people and teachers listened to the opinion of experts regarding the necessary actions to prevent addictions and improve the physical and mental health of children and youth in Guanajuato.
This edition of the Planet Youth Congress featured two panels and 47 presentations given by 58 speakers.
The goal of this Congress is to know the advances after three years of the implementation in Guanajuato of the Planet Youth program, the Icelandic Model for the Prevention of Addictions in Young People.
“We are showing that we want to go one step ahead in our public policies. We believe that in mexico this is one of the most innovative and complete programs on addictions. Planet Youth is well known for being a program that gives results with a scientific methodology and its main strength is social participation”, said the Governor.
“The results we have achieved in Guanajuato are beginning to be registered. Planet Youth Guanajuato, united for prevention is to build a community, become supportive and meet again as family and as neighbors, it is to base our decisions on data and have children and youth at the center of our efforts”, said the Governor.
The idea of the progran is to address the fundamental causes that bring children and adolescents closer to the consumption of toxic substances, and emphasis is observed on identifying protective factors and risk factors.
Planet Youth has an approach based on Public Health, which seeks, through local and current evidence, to know the risk factors in our community; This evidence marks a significant difference between this strategy and the others that have been used previously.
Within the framework of this strategy, the Planet Youth Guanajuato Emblem emerged, it is defined as a recognition of work spaces that promote healthy lifestyles and reflect social commitment focusing on the family and shared free time, to avoid addictions.
The first Planet Youth Emblem to companies, schools, agencies and organizations were delivered to:
- Pirelli Tire, Silao
- Mazda Motor Manufacturing of Mexico, Salamanca
- Covemex, Apaseo el Grande
- Celaya Soccer Club
- Emblems were also awarded to other participants of the Planet Youth program
The Governor inaugurated the Planet Youth offices in Leon, where the implementation of the Model will be monitored in different states of Mexico, and thus, Guanajuato will become a beacon of hope for Latin America in terms of prevention of addictions.
“All stories start off on the right foot, and we are a reflection of a good institutional friendship between Planet Youth and Guanajuato, which is setting an example for other states of how to work together for a common goal”, said Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo.
The Governor congratulated the Planet Youth family for the opening of this Mexico headquarters office. “Thank you all, Guanajuato is your home and we will always receive you with open arms,” said the Governor.
