The Secretary of the Migrant held a virtual forum with foreign residents living in Guanajuato
Foreigners agree that Guanajuato is an iconic place and that they like its Colonial Architecture, its traditions, its weather and gastronomy
Guanajuato/Gto News
In the virtual forum organized by the Secretary of the Migrant and International Connection, many of the foreigners living in Guanajuato said that they chose to come and live in Guanajuato as they reached the end of their work life.
An iconic place
Most of the leaders of the US community live in San Miguel de Allende, and they describe the city as an iconic place that reminds them of the times of Independence and with a diversity and internationalization that has been given by the US community as years go by.
From NY to SMA
Cate Poe, has lived in Guanajuato for 7 years, she is from El Paso, Texas, just North of the border from Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua.
But before she came to Mexico, she lived in New York for almost 30 years and in other cities in the US.
An easy decision
“In 2013 we had many reasons to move to Mexico, for example, my husband Jeff was in Austin, Texas and I was in New York, for some time we had been looking for a place to settle as a new couple since our children had gone from home and were living their own lives. We came only for one month in December, seven years ago, but it seemed like an ideal place to live in”, said Cate.
Poe says that her arrival to Guanajuato was for many reasons, but they are the same that attract all foreigners: the culture, the food, the weather and the cost of living here.
They help children from San Miguel de Allende
Nory is a woman who helps children in need, she is from Cuba, but she has lived almost all of her life in Miami, Florida.
Six years ago she moved to Guanajuato where she thinks her heart is Mexican.
A city adopted
I always say that my husband and I could have chosen any place to live in the world, still, a few time after we came to San Miguel de Allende we decided that definitely this would be hour permanent city of residence”, said Nory.
Nory is married to a US citizen who two years ago decided to retire from work and together they started to look for a place where they could rest during their retirement and they came to San Miguel de Allende to give it a try, but they fell in love with the city.
An anchor in San Miguel de Allende
“We loved the city so much that we brought with us a sculpture of more than 1,400 kilos, that means we are not going anywhere else. I knew I had to find a project that would definitely anchor me because, I was born in Cuba, but I give my time to care for Mexican children, there is no better project nor any more beautiful action in the world”, said Nory.
Sharing their Greatness
Juan Hernandez, the Secretary of Migrants said that Governor Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo believes that international communities that live in Guanajuato are part of the Greatness of Guanajuato, for what they provide and this makes them part of the Greatness of Mexico.
Hernandez said that State Authorities have set up lines to provide attention to them in case they need any help, assistance or any kind of support, at:
