“The music and poetry of Jose Alfredo Jimenez are a cultural bridge that unites Guanajuato with Mexico and the world”, said the Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, at the presentation of the National Tribute to Jose Alfredo Jimenez on his 50th Anniversary of Death.
This Tribute will be part of the 14th edition of the ‘Jose Alfredo Jimenez International Festival’, to be held from November 22 to 26 in Dolores Hidalgo, Cradle of National Independence.
“Dolores Hidalgo cannot be understood without this great artist and what better than to celebrate him in this manner; It will be a national holiday, we feel very proud and we will celebrate with music, with joy, with visual arts”, said the Governor.
In Guanajuato, said the Governor, there are countless great artists who are well known in the world, but the work of Jose Alfredo Jimenez has found a way to to carry and expose the life of the Mexican for several decades.
“In addition to feeling proud to be Governor of the great State of Guanajuato, I am a fan of Jose Alfredo Jimenez,” said the Governor.
Rodriguez Vallejo thanked the support of the Secretary of Culture of the Government of Mexico, Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, for the program that will be presented in various parts of Mexico to honor the artist from Guanajuato.
The Secretary of Tourism of Guanajuato, Juan Jose Alvarez Brunel, said that an influx of 20 thousand people is expected in the four days of the Festival, a possible economic benefit of 70 million pesos and a possible average hotel occupancy of 72% in Dolores Hidalgo, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato and San Felipe.
“We are waiting for you in Dolores Hidalgo, which in addition to being the Cradle of National Independence, is the cradle of several characters who have marked history and who have left a very important legacy; we the Guanajuatenses with great pride recognize it and pay homage to them”, said the Secretary.
Since 2010, during 13 editions, this Festival has had more than 80 musical artists of international stature and more than 15 thousand attendees each year, who have lived various experiences around the compositions of the ‘Son of the People’.
For this year, as is tradition, there will be concerts, serenades, bohemians, canteen tours, gastronomic and craft shows, as well as various cultural activities; including the serenade to Jose Alfredo Jimenez, in his mausoleum in the Dolores pantheon.
In these activities, there will be:
- More than 40 local artisans
- Traditional cooks from El Llanito community
- Tour operators from Dolores Hidalgo
- Musicians
- Among other local attractions
“With the Governor of Guanajuato we always have the opportunity to weave stories that lead to a good end, like the International Cervantino Festival, where Jose Alfredo Jimenez will be present on his 50th anniversary of death”, said the Secretary of Culture of the Government of Mexico, Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, who said that there will be more than 80 activities in 24 States of Mexico to remember the memory and work of Jose Alfredo Jimenez.
“We join not only with the heart of Guanajuato, but as this universal Mexican, that is Jose Alfredo, we have to commemorate him with various activities,” said Frausto.
