Guanajuato/Gto News
In the first four months of the year, more than 450 tons of Out of Use Tires -NFU- have been removed from Final Disposal Sites -SDF-, for their correct recovery and energy use.
With this strategy, one of the principles of the circular economy is fulfilled, by reincorporating this waste into the production chain as an energy input, avoiding its inadequate disposal and impact on the environment and health.
In coordination with the municipalities and Cementos Fortaleza Planta Tula, more than 450 tons of NFU have been removed in SDF and collection centers in these municipalities:
- Celaya, Salvatierra, San Jose Iturbide, Ocampo, Cortazar, Manuel Doblado, Uriangato, Leon, Apaseo el Alto, Santiago Maravatio, Abasolo, San Felipe and San Francisco del Rincon
Through the Environmental Directorates of the municipalities, the collection and storage of NFU is carried out, once they have a minimum quantity of 1,500 tires, the cement company supports with freight for their transportation and proper handling.
Co-processing in cement kilns allows the reduction of environmental pollution, reduction of greenhouse gases, contributes to waste management, avoids the deposit of waste in landfills and allows the proper use of industrial waste.
In addition, no new waste, ash or emissions are generated, due to the emissions controls and the high temperatures that allow complete combustion.
Also, the burning of this waste in the Final Disposal Sites is avoided, in addition to the spread of diseases such as dengue due to its accumulation.
An NFU takes up to 1,000 years to degrade under normal conditions, hence the seriousness of the exposure of this waste on public roads or outside any Treatment of Used Tires -TNU- area, hence the importance of joining and accessing registration of suppliers that work under environmental standards.
Municipalities interested in participating can approach the Ministry of Environment and Territorial Planning -SMAOT- to receive advice from the General Directorate of Environmental Management.
