Guanajuato will have 30 new high school options, that will accept 3,650 more high school students

Guanajuato/Gto News

“We have great news for the young people of Guanajuato, because we will have 30 new high school options, which represent a spot for 3,650 more high school students, under this new model of the Comprehensive Baccalaureates of Guanajuato,” said the Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, during the broadcast of the Connecting with the People Program.

This involves converting some secondary schools that are not used during the evening shift so that these schools can be adapted and function as high schools, the Governor explained in this program.

On this occasion, Libia Dennise was joined by Luis Ignacio Sanchez Gomez, Secretary of Education of Guanajuato; Maria Clarette Perez Velazquez, Director of the Guanajuato Comprehensive High School, El Carmen campus in Leon; and Ximena Sosa Ramirez, a student enrolled at the Guanajuato Comprehensive High School, Guanajuato campus.

Libia Dennise explained that the People’s Government innovated with this model by taking the proposal to the federal Secretary of Public Education. “I’m very pleased because in Guanajuato, it’s a model that they’ve now adopted for all of Mexico and will be implemented,” said Libia.

It was in November of last year that Governor Libia Dennise proposed to the President of the Republic to expand high school education coverage by using evening shifts in secondary schools.

For the next 2025-2026 school year, Guanajuato will begin with 25 new high schools that are now ready, having been converted by the State Government, it will add up to 30, with another 5 from the Federation (4 converted and 1 under construction).

With these actions, Guanajuato will increase its school enrollment rate from 74.9 percent to 85.3 percent by 2030.

The 25 new options for the Guanajuato Comprehensive Baccalaureate are distributed in 16 municipalities of the State:

  • Apaseo el Alto, Celaya (2), Coroneo, Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato, Irapuato (2), Jerecuaro, Leon (8), Romita, Salamanca, Salvatierra, San Francisco del Rincon, San Jose Iturbide (2), San Luis de la Paz and Uriangato

Among the characteristics of this baccalaureate model are its duration of only two years, in addition to providing employment opportunities; it will focus on academic activities in accordance with the official curriculum; and its schedule runs from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with Saturday activities.

The Governor explained that the model, which offers comprehensive preparation, guides youth toward a life plan aligned with their interests and aspirations. Among its main benefits are training in artistic, athletic, digital, socio-emotional, and entrepreneurial skills.

Upon completing their high school education, graduates will obtain a tool that will help them find employment with “microcredentials,” which are digital certificates that certify their knowledge and skills.

That is, students in the Comprehensive Baccalaureate model will be able to take these “microcredentials” as an optional and parallel course, and thus obtain recognition for the work skills they acquire in:

  • Cultural Management, Tourism Services, Health Services, Footwear, and Information Technology

Microcredential training will let students, after one more school year, to obtain a Higher Technical University degree with recognition from a university involved in this process; this gives them the opportunity to enter the labor market.

These schools will have highly trained staff:

A principal, a technical-administrative assistant principal, subject teachers, arts teachers (in three disciplines: performing arts, visual arts, and music), and physical education teachers (not only for physical activities but also to encourage healthy lifestyles)
