“With our visit, we want to strengthen our ties of cooperation. Together, Guanajuato and Mazda have built a great working alliance, with great effort and dedication, which we must protect,” said Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, during a meeting with Mazda’s top executives during the third day of an intense tour of Japan.

The State Governor reaffirmed the commitment of the Government she leads to provide certainty and trust in difficult times in the international scene.

Libya Dennise explained that the expectation is for trade agreements to be reached to halt U.S. tariffs, to avoid a negative impact on Mexican production.
“I want to share with you that we have been working very closely with the Mexican government to form a united front and defend the automotive industry and its suppliers,” the Governor emphasized.

Present at this meeting were Kiyotaka Shobuda, Representative Director and Chairman of the Board; Masahiro Moro, Representative Director, President and CEO; Ryuichi Umeshita, Senior Executive Director and Chief Technology Officer; and Takeshi Maejima, Executive Interpreter.
Speaking to the automotive company’s executives, the State Governor recalled that her first event as a candidate for State Governor was at the Mazda plant located in Salamanca, Guanajuato, due to the company’s importance in the State.

“It’s very important that we see ourselves as a team. We consider Mazda part of Guanajuato, and we know that Mazda feels part of this government’s team that works for the people,” she said.
Libia explained that, under the People’s Government, the foundations for a safer Guanajuato have been laid, with the implementation of the CONFIA strategy that has led to a reduction in violence in the State.

Mazda’s trust in Guanajuato translates into more than $1.055 billion in accumulated investment and the creation of more than 5,200 jobs for Guanajuatense families.
In Mexico, Mazda has a production plant in Salamanca, Guanajuato, where it produces cars for both the Mexican market and for export.

Since the foundation stone was laid on October 11, 2011, it has been a driving force of economic and social development in Guanajuato.

Six years after operations began, in January 2020, the plant reached a cumulative production of 1 million units. By February 2025, the plant has produced more than 1.8 million vehicles, which supply the domestic market and are also exported to more than 30 countries, primarily in North America and Europe.
The Mazda plant in Salamanca is an example of business success and a model of sustainable economic and social development in the region.

At the meeting, the People’s Government proposed an agreement to grant scholarships to 10 young Guanajuatense students to receive specialized training in Japan. This agreement entails a joint investment (Mazda-Guanajuato) of 1.3 million pesos to develop young talent in Guanajuato.
This way, Japan consolidates its position as one of the State’s most important trading partners, with companies continuing to invest in Guanajuato, thereby ensuring the continued existence of thousands of direct and indirect jobs in the automotive sector.

Between 2006 and 2025, prior to this tour, Japan has accumulated an investment of more than $8.9 billion, created 48,000 jobs, and 145 consolidated projects (represented by 113 companies established in Guanajuato).
