The Museum of Art and History of Guanajuato -MAHG- of the Guanajuato Cultural Forum has inaugurated two new temporary exhibitions “On the roads of Guanajuato. Modern and contemporary art from El Bajío” and “Selfish Heart”, as part of the special program “Guanajuato, 200 years of greatness.”
“On the roads of Guanajuato” has been curated by the doctor in History and Theory of Art Daniel Garza Usabiaga, independent curator, graduate professor and researcher. This exhibition project has been possible thanks to the collaboration of private and institutional collections.
This exhibition brings together the work of artists, from the 18th century to the present, who can be identified with the state of Guanajuato. Avoiding resorting to a chronological order.
The path begins in the countryside, with its archaeological stratum, and contemplates its natural, scenic and productive dimensions. It reaches a space where it merges with the urban and finally ends in the city. There, categories such as monumentality, the domestic, the domain of production (work), social life and history are contemplated.
The title of this exhibition, “En los caminos de Guanajuato”, anticipates this journey, as well as alluding, obviously, to the most famous popular song, dedicated to the state of Guanajuato since the mid-20th century.
The exhibition “On the roads of Guanajuato” recognizes the legacy of a group of artists from the 18th to the 20th centuries.
“Corazón Egoísta” is a project made up of a collaborative pictorial work between 80 artists –in which the homonymous painting by the Guanajuato artist Olga Costa is reinterpreted-, and a set of pieces made by the collective that oscillate between videos, objects and deployments of an installation nature.
With a diverse, critical and playful practice, Dolores Hidalgo challenges the role of the artist in contemporary society and explores the nature of the art system from its globalized condition. Dolores Hidalgo describes her works of art as tools that arise from an imaginary space, based on study, play and encouragement.
Like every temporary exhibition, both exhibits include a public program , with activities such as:
- The Contemporary Art of Bajío dialogue table , on Wednesday, August 23 at 6:00 p.m.
- Museum Night on Wednesday, September 27 at 7:00 p.m.
- A cycle of projections of Identity and Belonging documentaries in connection with the Guanajuato International Film Festival
- The conference by Daniel Garza Usabiaga in the month of October
There will also be family workshops on weekends and capsules of the education team of the virtual Ludoteca program at a distancerelated to this exhibition.
All activities are free of charge.
