The sunrise in Leon had a distinct glow. From the first hours of the day, thousands of families gathered at the Parque Metropolitano to witness the takeoff of over 200 hot air balloons which, one by one, ascended, filling the sky with magic and color.
Mayor of Leon, Ale Gutierrez, noted that the International Balloon Festival (FIG) is one of the most cherished events by the city’s families, and an opportunity to showcase the warmth and talent of the Leoneses to the world.
“Thanks for being here. We feel very fortunate to welcome so many people visiting us from countless cities, but also to be here with our own people from Leon and the State. It is for you that it is worthwhile to hold these type of events in the city. This is already the 22nd year of the Balloon event,” the Mayor said.
“We want you to enjoy yourselves, to be happy, to feel proud to be from Leon, to feel proud to be from Guanajuato, and, above all, to continue opening our arms to every visitor,” Ale said.
The massive launch created picture-perfect moments that will be etched in the memory of attendees, featuring special shapes that flew for the first time in the sky of Leon. As soon as they rose, they sparked awe and thousands of cameras pointed upwards.
The presence of Mickey and Minnie, and balloons such as Disneyland 70, Save Me, Mazu, Candy House, Pirate Bot, Shark Marcelo, and Z-Boy became the morning’s biggest stars, stealing glances, smiles, and gasps from children and adults alike.
An Event for Everyone
Through the Secretary of Social Strengthening of Leon, courtesy tickets were distributed so that more families could attend the FIG. Furthermore, free transportation was provided to transfer residents from neighborhoods and communities, guaranteeing their right to enjoy their city.
The Governor of the State of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, invited families to enjoy the event.
“We want to create memories in the hearts of our children. We want to continue building peace for our State, and events like this bring us together as a family,” Libia said.
Authorities reported that security and mobility surrounding the event are ensured through coordinated operations that include surveillance, health, civil protection, and transportation, guaranteeing a safe and orderly experience for all.
With this edition, the International Balloon Festival reaffirms Leon as a vibrant, hospitable city full of talent, able of conquering the world from its sky.
