The Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, led the reopening ceremony of the Juarez Theater, after the largest intervention to its facilities since its construction.
“Today we are witnessing history. Of a luminous history that began 120 years ago, and continues to this day,” said the Governor.
This venue was inaugurated in 1903 and is one of the great historical theaters in Mexico and the most iconic in Guanajuato.
The State invested 161 million pesos in these works that lasted for 19 months.
The rehabilitation actions of the Juarez Theater include:
- Accessibility
- An elevator
- New box office
- Boxes enabled for people in wheelchairs
- Functionality, with the renewal of theater mechanics with motorized equipment
- Modernization of the lighting system with LED luminaires
Theatrical garment was replaced with the remodeling of the dressing rooms and warm-up room; the reorganization of work and storage spaces in the forum; and the relocation and remodeling of administrative offices and new voice and data systems.
The intervention also included safety issues with the total renovation of the fire system and signage; also, the accesses for emergency exits were remodeled.
Among the works carried out, bathrooms were remodeled and new bathrooms were installed in the lobby; work was done to isolate outside noise, with new doors in the room and double glass.
Among other works, the conservation, cleaning and restoration of the facade and walls stands out, besides, the blacksmithing and carpentry was done, including seats and its emblematic canteen. All this with a complete renovation of electrical, rainwater and hydrosanitary installations.
The Juarez Theater is an incomparable architectural jewel, a dynamic and active scene that requires adaptation to the needs of artists and audiences of the 21st century.
Since the beginning of 2022, the Juarez Theater received the largest restoration and renovation project in its history. An extensive program of conservation, equipment and improvements that do not modify its admired appearance, but make it a safer, more space friendly and functional.
The remodeling works come just in time for its 120th anniversary, the State Government returns this venue to its spectators with the purpose of restoring the luster to its facade and interiors.
The reopening, prior to the 51st Edition of the Cervantino International Festival, featured “Aida”, the same opera with which the curtain was raised 120 years ago; now with the participation of the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Guanajuato and the Bicentennial Theater Choir; plus three solid and splendid voices.
The Juarez Theater will continue to be the great forum of Guanajuato, ready for new times. A safe, comfortable and inclusive building, said the Governor.
