Guanajuato celebrates the tradition with the seventh edition of the Day of the Dead Festival “Live it in Guanajuato!”

Mexico City/Gto News

With the support of the People’s Government and the State Secretary of Tourism and Identity (SECTURI), Guanajuato City is preparing to celebrate the seventh edition of the Day of the Dead Festival, “Live it in Guanajuato!”, from October 29 to November 2.

This festival is one of Mexico’s most representative festivities and, today, it is one of the most anticipated in the country’s cultural calendar.

Aligned with the 2024–2030 State Tourism Program, this festival strengthens the State’s cultural identity, promotes the region’s tourism development, and consolidates Guanajuato as a destination with a cultural, artistic, and spiritual vocation.

In 2025, organizers expect:

  • An economic impact of 291 million pesos
  • 100% hotel occupancy
  • 22,346 room nights
  • A total attendance of 197,800 people

“Thanks to the support of our Governor, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, tourism in Guanajuato now has direction, identity, and purpose. Every festival, every busy street, and every occupied hotel represent more jobs, more opportunities, and more pride for our people,” said Lupita Robles, Secretary of Tourism and Identity.

The Underground Street, once again transformed into the Tunnel of Tradition, will be the epicenter of this great sensorial, artistic, and cultural experience, which includes the Xempa Circo Dragon, mojigangas, monumental skulls, an interactive offering, video mapping, musical, artisan, and artistic presentations, as well as a monumental offering in honor of Jose Alfredo Jimenez in collaboration with Dolores Hidalgo.

The festival will also feature the Procession of the Little Angels, the Parade of Skulls and Catrinas, the Carpet of Death, and the immersive show Return to Mictlan, which celebrates the Mexican worldview and “death in Guanajuato” as a symbol of reunion, color, and life.

“The Day of the Dead Festival not only preserves our traditions, it reinvents them with art, color, and emotion. Here, death becomes life, and memory becomes a sensorial experience that unites the soul of Mexico with the world,” Robles emphasized.

In its previous edition, the festival attracted visitors from China, the United States, France, Spain, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica, and Guatemala, as well as from various Mexican cities such as Mexico City, Puebla, Queretaro, Monterrey, Chihuahua, Sonora, and Aguascalientes, in addition to local visitors from Leon, Irapuato, Celaya, Salamanca, Dolores Hidalgo, and Silao.
