“By renewing this symbolic fire, we renew the hope that a better Guanajuato is possible; we also renew the future we want for our daughters and sons and I am certain that we will all work together for Guanajuato and for Mexico”, said Governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo.
Libia led the ceremony of Renewal of the Symbolic Fire of Independence on the 214th Anniversary of the Capture of the Alhondiga de Granaditas.
“Today we honor the struggle of brave men and women who allowed us to have this independent Mexico; today we honor the history and memory of our State, a glorious and wonderful State of which we are deeply proud”, said the Governor.
Today, the call of society is essential for this government, said Libia, because attention to the people will be the central axis for making decisions on the direction of the State.
Libia also urged society and government to join forces and work hand in hand so that Guanajuato has the best citizens and to build, together, a State that fills us with pride and that it becomes the Guanajuato of the People.
“Today I reaffirm that people will be the central axis of this government; today this call of the Symbolic Fire makes us rethink the path we want for Guanajuato and for Mexico”, said Libia.
“We must work together, unite our efforts and our work so that this lofty cause, this greater purpose that must unite us, is for all of us, equality, justice, and the development of the people and families of our State,” said the Governor.
The Governor renewed the Symbolic Fire of Independence that represents the memory of the heroic acts that all the Insurgents carried out during the struggle for Independence to consolidate Mexico as an autonomous nation.
This fire was rekindled again on December 20, 1823, when Guanajuato declared itself a Free and Sovereign State, and has remained alive since then in the Enclosure of Heroes in the Alhondiga de Granaditas.
Prior to this Ceremony, Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo participated in the traditional Civic-Military Parade to commemorate the 214th anniversary of the Capture of the Alhondiga de Granaditas.
The Governor was with representatives of the Legislative and Judicial Powers of Guanajuato, and other authorities to pay tribute to the National Flag and the flag of Guanajuato in the Embajadoras Garden.
They then led the parade through the streets of Guanajuato, where contingents from State Government departments, municipalities, civil associations, schools, athletes and the Mexican Army participated.
4,450 people participated in this parade, reporting a final balance with no incidents.
