While leading the ceremony of placing the Poster of the Fiestas Patrias through the Solemn Proclamation, the Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, said that this holiday will be a reason to renew “the internal Fire in each person, to continue making Guanajuato, that free State, of hardworking people, of values, that give Glory to the Homeland.”

“I am very excited to be in this land of freedom, which is not only the Cradle of National Independence, but also the heart of the nation,” said the Governor.

“Today, as I place this solemn proclamation, I would like to reflect on what these upcoming dates in Mexico represent. It was here that the bells rang for a national movement, one that was brewing for the freedom and dignity of our people, here in Dolores Hidalgo, the flame of Independence was born,” said Libia Dennise.

Libia said it wasn’t the struggle of a single man, but rather the consistent struggle of women and men who believed that a better Mexico was possible.

“It was the struggle of the Father of the Nation, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, but also that of Tomasa Esteves, as well as that of the insurgent women of Penjamo, of Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez, and of thousands of Mexicans who fought from their trenches for the freedom they so longed for,” she said.

The Governor said that today, the work of each of us is to achieve the results we desire; “doing what we must to achieve a more just and peaceful Guanajuato and Mexico; the one our daughters and sons deserve.”

“Together we are stronger. When we move forward and walk hand in hand, there is no one who can stop us,” said Libia.

The Governor honored the women and men who have paved the way and left their mark on our history, such as Virginia Soto Rodriguez, the first female elected mayor in the history of Guanajuato and Mexico.

It was in 1958 when Virginia Soto Rodriguez ran for mayor of Dolores Hidalgo, winning the election by a majority, becoming the first woman elected in the history of Guanajuato and Mexico to act as Mayor.

As part of this ceremony, authorities walked to the corner of Zacatecas Street and the Main Square, where Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo and Mayor Adrian Hernandez Alejandri placed the first sign.

The ceremony included a solemn moment in front of the Hidalgo Monument, where the Governor and authorities mounted a guard of honor.

During these September festivities in Dolores Hidalgo, nationally and internationally renowned artists and musical groups will perform; there will also be rides and Mexican snacks and typical food so that those who attend enjoy the festivities.
