The Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, announced that Guanajuato will host the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles from June 6 to 9.
“We are very happy and proud with this designation, which honors us and from today we give you the warmest welcome to Guanajuato,” said the Governor during his work tour of Croatia.
This Contest is an international benchmark in the world of wine; and it is the second time in its history that it will be held outside of Europe, said the Governor.
“In Guanajuato we have experience in international events, so the Contest will be a success. We have everything we need: transportation, infrastructure, services”, said the Governor who was with the Secretary of Tourism of Guanajuato, Juan Jose Alvarez Brunel; and the Technical Secretary of the CONAGO Wine Industry Commission, Aldo Marquez Becerra.
The event will generate 300 million pesos of spending, in an event where 54 countries and 450 international judges will participate.
“Guanajuato is the State that is currently giving the most impetus to the wine industry in Mexico. And that has translated into the permanent expansion of this industry. There is great enthusiasm to continue advancing to become a national and international benchmark in this sector”, said Marquez.
“Guanajuato has the vision and the initiative to further project and develop our wine industry with this great event, which will undoubtedly be a success”, said the Governor.
Rodriguez Vallejo said that Guanajuato is the ideal venue, because we must remember that the history of wine in Mexico began during the Spanish colony, the first European vines were brought by the Spanish conquistadors and missionaries, and were planted from Mexico City to the north, passing through Guanajuato. Guanajuato is 4th. in Mexico in wine production. It has 46 wine and wine related projects; 34 wineries that make up the Guanajuato Grape and Wine Association; 25 wine tourism projects.
The production is 1’240,000 liters of wine, highlighting Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Tempranillo, Nebbiolo, Semillon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc.
