It is necessary to strengthen the learning and teaching of the English language according to the real requirements and needs of each person, whether they are professionals or those who work in technical or specialized areas, said Armando Rangel Morales, Academic Coordinator of Languages of the State Training Institute –IECA-, after being a special guest at the British Embassy in Mexico.
During the presentation of the study “English for employment in Mexico: realities and challenges”, by Dialogue Leadership for the Americas, which was attended by professors, researchers and representatives of upper secondary and higher education institutions, Rangel Morales highlighted the importance of the recent analysis to know the proficiency of English in the workplace and the determining effect that it can have on job opportunities and professional growth.
The Official said that in the coordination he heads, an effort is made to generate courses with specific purposes, as well as the level that each person requires according to their specialty or work or professional performance, since English is not the same as that required by a person who works in the automotive sector than one who works in a business area.
For this reason, Rangel Morales stressed that the teaching of the English language will have to be modified and adapted to changing situations, because as time goes by there are new careers that will need specific English to achieve the goal of having citizens who communicate at the expected levels.
Rangel Morales pointed out that the study also warns that the level of English that students learn in their various school grades does not meet the language level that employers require or the skills that employers need in a workplace.
The Academic Coordinator of Languages explained that the study issues specific recommendations for teaching and learning English oriented to the requirements of the working and professional world.
