Kids go to the rescue of mesquites

Mother and kids of pre-school in Salamanca work to rescue the mesquites and the local environment

The “Beatriz Ordonez Acuna” Kindergarten celebrated Environment Day with a project called “Reforesting my School” and as part of this program, the education community of Guadalupe de Rivera, in Salamanca, began the planting, conservation and care of mesquite trees, which are a natural species in Guanajuato.

Fátima Guerra González, responsible for this kindergarten, said that the objective of this project is to promote reforestation and care of the environment in the school, and in the community itself, the mesquites were chosen because they are native to the region, which will facilitate their adaptation and care in the school environment.

Guerra explained that this initiative is valuable to raise awareness among children about the importance of environmental conservation and the care of local ecosystems, in addition to the fact that there is interest in participating by the mothers of students in this type of projects.

The mesquite is a plant of the genus “Prosopis”, which is found in desert and semi-desert areas of Mexico, including Guanajuato, and stands out for its ability to fix nitrogen and fertilize soils; the seeds are used for animal and human food, due to their nutritional properties.

Jaqueline Guadalupe Garcia Lopez, mother of a minor in the “Beatriz Ordonez Acuna” kindergarten, said that they took the initiative to protect their environment, given the climate challenges they are currently facing, where it is necessary to become aware and work to improve the conditions of the surrounding environment.
