The State of Guanajuato, the municipality of Uriangato and 12 invited countries will celebrate the patronal festivity dedicated to San Miguel Arcangel in the 7th. edition of the “International Meeting of Carpet Makers”, an event that is held from October 1 to 7.
Frida Huett Lopez, director of Tourist Products of SECTUR, and Anastacio Rosiles Perez, mayor of Uriangato, reported that this year 10 countries will participate in person:
- Mexico, Spain, Italy, Guatemala, Panama, Argentina, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Brazil, Colombia
2 will have a virtual participation:
- Poland and India
The participants will meet in the Historic Center, atrium of the church of San Miguel Arcengel, and the main streets of the municipality of Uriangato.
In this Meeting, supported by the Government of the State of Guanajuato, through the Secretary of Tourism, artists in Ephemeral Art and volunteers from these countries will decorate rugs and carpets with seeds, flowers, sawdust and lots of color to mark the road that San Miguel Arcangel goes through to reach the temple of this City, where a mass is celebrated on Thursday 06, at 6 pm.
This multicultural scenario has been of great projection for the State of Guanajuato, proudly placing the name of Uriangato internationally. This year, the Uriangato Monumental Carpet once again arrived to ‘The Flower Carpet’ event, at the most beautiful square in the world:
- The Great Square in Brussels, Belgium
The creation of the carpet was led by Roo Aguilar Aguado, carpet maker from Uriangato and member of the Organizing Committee La Octava Noche Uriangato, AC
This creation of rugs and carpets in Uriangato, an act of faith and devotion to the patron saint, is “Intangible Cultural Heritage of the State of Guanajuato”, as issued by the Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, in January 2022.
In addition to this event, which begins on October 1 and will be broadcast on the municipality’s social networks, the following activities will be held:
- International meeting of cantoya balloons
- Trade space for Guanajuato products
- Training of ambassadors From Mexico to the World
- Creating space for textile businesses
