With a call to value the sense of sight with care such as attending a visual health check-up once a year, World Sight Day was commemorated at INGUDIS, which this year focuses on blindness and in sensitizing the world population on prevention and timely treatment.
In parallel, World White Cane Day was commemorated, which is a worldwide symbol to identify people with visual disabilities and an instrument of inclusion and equal opportunities.
At the Visual Rehabilitation Center, people from various municipalities met to share experiences and situations they face in daily life and to emphasize, in the preventive field, timely attention to visual impairment.
Participating in this meeting were representatives of universities that offer careers to train professionals in the field, students and staff of institutions involved in the care of people with low vision and blindness, representatives of municipal DIF institutions.
Jose Grimaldo Colmenero, General Director of INGUDIS, highlighted the importance of attending this call to maintain people’s sense of sight in optimal conditions, “and at the same time it is important to know that there are people who use a cane to move independently and that we must become socially aware”, said the Director.
The Coordinator of the INGUDIS Visual Rehabilitation Center, Ana Cristina Badillo Hurtado, also stressed the importance of becoming aware of eye care that allows us to have the sense of sight.
Subsequently, a talk was presented on the experience of Maria Concepcion Correa Tovar and Hugo Enrique Patron Hernandez, people with visual disabilities who shared some experiences on their condition, as well as in the use of the white cane.
