“Inclusion as an Organizational Competency in the Context of Sustainability” is a topic that the Secretary of Human Rights is bringing to the private sector with the fundamental objective of raising awareness about the participation of all people in the economy.

The Undersecretary for the Inclusion of People with Disabilities, Carlos Daigoro Fonce Segura, led a workshop on this topic, as well as on accessibility in architectural design, with an important commercial group in Guanajuato and in Mexico.

Fonce noted the importance of understanding disability as part of human diversity, as well as its close relationship with population aging, demographic changes and current challenges of social and economic sustainability.

The Official noted that inclusion should not be conceived as a welfare action or as a soft policy, but as a strategic organizational competence, comparable to financial management, logistics or innovation, with measurable impacts on the competitiveness and resilience of companies.

“Companies that understand inclusion as an organizational capability are not only fairer, but also more profitable, adaptable and relevant in the long term,” said Fonce.

Several international studies confirm that inclusion generates positive returns and competitive advantages for organizations.

Labor exclusion of this sector represents an estimated cost of between 3% and 7% of GDP for countries, according to analyses by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Labour Organization (ILO).

During the accessibility workshop in architectural design, it was emphasized that disability results from interaction with environments and systems not designed with a universal perspective. By eliminating physical, communication, and organizational barriers, talent, productivity, and purchasing power are unlocked.

Inclusion, it was emphasized, improves innovation by integrating diverse perspectives into the design of products and services; it expands the talent base, reducing the shortage of specialized profiles; and it improves the market experience, benefiting not only people with disabilities, but the entire population.

According to the World Bank and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), greater workplace inclusion broadens the tax base, strengthens local economic stability, and improves investment prospects and access to capital.

“Designing for diversity doesn’t compete with efficiency; it enhances it. Inclusion is a strategic investment for the present and future of businesses,” said the Official.
