For the third consecutive year, the State of Guanajuato inaugurated the 8th. Edition of the “Sustainable & Social Tourism Summit”, at Poliforum León, with the presence of important tourism actors from 12 countries.

The Summit, with the motto “Results that impact, commitments that inspire”, has the objective of linking professionals and generating business opportunities through its virtual and in-person spaces, providing solutions to problems of sustainability, solidarity and social responsibility in the tourism through various tools such as conferences, panels, workshops, training and networking.

In his inaugural message, Juan José Álvarez Brunel, Secretary of Tourism of Guanajuato, representing Governor Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, highlighted that Guanajuato is a destination that leads actions that promote responsible tourism development.

“It was the commitments that inspired us to move forward and achieve results that have been impacting in the last four years,” said Alvarez who added that SECTUR was the first Secretariat to have a “Tourism Sustainability Program”, an “Internal Public Sustainability Policy” and the first with a Carbon Footprint that, “together with the Secretariat of Environment and Planning Territorially, the Emblem Project was determined so that the compensations remain in Guanajuato”.

Without a doubt, “this third Summit –which runs until July 6 and has Costa Rica as a special guest– gives us the great opportunity to strengthen and endorse Guanajuato’s commitment to sustainability”, said the Secretary of Tourism.

In this most important Sustainable and Socially Responsible Tourism event in Ibero-America, based at Poliforum León, 3rd Awards were presented. edition of the “Ibero-American Sustainable and Social Tourism Award” in five categories; In this, 47 applications were received from nine countries.

The winners are:

“At summits like this, knowledge is deepened, sustainability initiatives that have had an impact and help to advance in a catalytic way in the tourism sector are illustrated. Thanks to Guanajuato,” said Dirk Gleasser, Director of Sustainable Tourism of the World Tourism Organization.

“Thanks to your efforts, the idea of ​​sustainability continues to expand and reach more tourist destinations, entrepreneurs and more people. This meeting represents an opportunity to learn from experts, take away solutions and tools, share ideas and experiences, and weave commitments that inspire us to build a more sustainable and equitable future for global tourism”, said Fernando Mandri Bellot, President of the Sustainable & Social Tourism Summit, who thanked the Government of the State of Guanajuato for its support, dedication and hard work in these last three editions of the SUMMIT.

Prior to the inauguration of the 8th. Edition of the “Sustainable & Social Tourism Summit”, Juan José Álvarez Brunel celebrated the Reincorporation of Guanajuato Certification to the International Social Tourism Organization (ISTO), a great ally of the Ministry of Tourism in matters of Social Tourism.

This affiliation, which is renewed for the third time, is a firm example of the commitment that the entity has with the people of Guanajuato in order to make tourism an economic activity with a responsible impact.
