Authorities want to provide first aid care in cases where patients suffer a crisis in public premises
Guanajuato/Gto News
The Secretary of Health is developing the strategy for a “Cardioprotected Guanajuato”.
Currently, Guanajuato has several spaces nominated as “Cardioprotected Spaces” in municipalities such as San Miguel de Allende, Leon, Silao, Guanajuato and Celaya, including public squares, shopping centers, stadiums, universities and the Bajio International Airport.

The strategy has the support of the Guanajuato College of Cardiologists, the Guanajuato College of Critical Care and Intensive Therapy, and the Guanajuato State Medical College of Emergencies, who are joining forces to strengthen the protection of life in critical situations faced by Guanajuatenses.

Since last year, there has been training for doctors to evaluate public, work, and education spaces, prepared to attend to emergencies due to sudden cardiac arrest.
The experts evaluate high-traffic premises such as schools, sports centers, businesses, airports, hospitals, offices, public squares, and universities.
The Secretary of Health, Gabriel Cortes Alcala, said that the objective of these 17 evaluators is to verify that the “Cardioprotected Spaces” have automated external defibrillators (AEDs), adequate signage, action protocols, and personnel trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

It was previously verified that the appraisers had profiles linked to the management of medical emergencies, disasters and emergencies, and that they reside in strategic municipalities such as Leon, Celaya, Irapuato, Salamanca, Silao, Guanajuato, Apaseo el Alto, San Felipe, Purisima del Rincon and Acambaro.
The implementation of this strategy responds to a priority public health problem, where heart disease is the leading cause of death in Guanajuato.

The Secretary of Health reaffirmed the commitment to guarantee timely medical care, thanks to a hospital network strategically distributed throughout the state:
- 16 general hospitals, 7 specialty units, 19 community hospitals and 569 first-level units, making Guanajuato the only State with a hospital presence in all 46 of its municipalities
In addition “Guanajuato Cardioprotected” includes actions such as the implementation of an evaluation form and the training of specialized evaluators, community training in CPR and the permanent performance of drills.
