Guanajuato/Gto News

The Secretary of Health is making progress in the injection of vaccines that protect the population during the winter season.

The Secretary of Health, Gabriel Cortes Alcala, reported that, regarding the Covid 19 vaccination, the agency he leads has given 241,000 doses, which represent 77% progress toward the established goal.

Regarding seasonal influenza, 1.4 million doses have been administered, reaching 83% progress; while for pneumococcus, 116,000 doses have been administered, with 78% compliance.

Last December, the National Center for Child and Adolescent Health awarded recognition to the state of Guanajuato for having reached the expected goal of vaccination against seasonal influenza, by exceeding 800,000 doses given.

In this season, Guanajuato plans to administer a total of 1,701,000 doses including the three vaccines, Cortes Alcala reminded the public that vaccinations are still being administered.

Cortes recommended that adults aged 60 and over get vaccinated simultaneously against influenza, Covid 19 and pneumococcus.

Likewise, pregnant women should receive Covid 19 and influenza vaccines, preferably during the last trimester of pregnancy, to promote the transfer of antibodies to the fetus.

In addition, it is urged that the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine be universally injected to all adults over 60 years of age.

The Secretary of Health urges the public to:

  • Wash your hands frequently or use antibacterial gel
  • Avoid sudden temperature changes and dress warmly
  • Consume foods rich in vitamins, as well as maintain constant hydration
  • Ventilate enclosed spaces and avoid self-medication
  • See a doctor if you experience symptoms such as fever, persistent cough, difficulty breathing, or general discomfort

The Secretary urged the population to go to the nearest People’s Health Center to request the corresponding doses and receive timely medical guidance.
