The Guanajuato Health System confirmed the second case of monkeypox in the State, it is a 48-year-old patient from Guanajuato City and with travel history.
This is the second case diagnosed by the Mexican Institute of Social Security, IMSS, an institute that was recognized by Diaz Martinez.
The patient’s contacts have already been diagnosed and none was positive, however, close epidemiological surveillance is maintained.
Dr. Daniel Alberto Díaz Martínez explained that the Guanajuato Health System received notification of positivity of one of the samples that was sent to the National Institute of Epidemiological Reference, (InDRE).
The patient is reported with a stable condition and out of danger, he is in recovery under the necessary measures for his prompt discharge.
Diaz Martinez called on the population not to be alarmed because, unlike Covid 19, Monkeypox requires very close or direct contact with the patient diagnosed as positive.
It takes, for example, sleeping with the person, having sexual contact, or contact with secretions from infected people.
Diaz recalled that it is a febrile disease, with skin lesions, fever and ganglion growths with attacks on the general health condition.
Diaz Martinez called on the population to reinforce hand washing and go to the corresponding unit for a medical check-up in case of symptoms.
The symptoms are:
- Fever
- Chills
- Swollen lymph nodes
- Exhaustion
- Muscle and back pain
- Headache
- Respiratory symptoms (eg, sore throat, nasal congestion, or cough)
