The Government of the People will maintain economic support for Civil Society Organizations -CSOs-, through an agile, plural and transparent platform, which facilitates the strengthening of organizations and resource management.
“Civil society organizations should know that these resources will go to help people, to support those causes that move you and that you are passionate about, for the direct benefit of the people of Guanajuato,” said Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, in the most recent broadcast of the program Connecting with the People, in which she was accompanied by Rosario Corona, head of the Secretary for the New Beginning.
The Governor clarified that despite the intention to extinguish the Trust Fund for Administration and Investment to finance works, infrastructure, projects and priority actions in matters of Social Development and Public Security for the State of Guanajuato -FIDESSEG-, the resource will continue to be available to civil associations.
“We have to make the right decisions and constantly evaluate the models. The New Beginning is serious and involves shaking up administrative structures that are not necessarily giving the results we want, which is to reach people directly and support these social causes that are so important”, said the Governor.
In this edition of Connecting with the People, the Governor and the Secretary of the New Beginning explained that 1,195 million pesos are given to the OSC, but only 45 percent translates into benefits for the people (537 million 750 thousand pesos). Therefore, they will try to have 85 percent of the budget assigned to support the people and only 15 percent allocated to administrative functions and operating and indirect expenses.
“It must be said clearly, transparency has not been a characteristic of the Trust -FIDESSEG- and another fundamental issue is that we seek to have a mechanism that encourages CSOs to empower themselves,” the Governor stressed.
The State of Guanajuato has more than 1,200 registered Civil Society Organizations, of which 287 have sought access to the Trust’s resources and only 147 have benefited, that is, only 12 percent, so the possibility of supporting more CSOs will be expanded.
“If there is one thing I am clear about, it is that, as Governor, we have to make decisions every day that bring us closer to the goal of helping the noblest causes of society. This is a Government that listens, but also a Government that is not afraid to make decisions and that is what we are doing, deciding for the benefit of our people,” said Libia Dennise.
