The State Government of Guanajuato supports relatives of victims of the accident in Mississippi, United States, where some Guanajuatenses are among the casualties

The Secretary for Migrants and International Liaison -SMEI- made available to the families of the victims of the accident all the necessary help and support at this difficult moment.
Susana Guerra Vallejo, head of the department, said that, according to verified information, there were two deceased people, one from Uriangato and another from Penjamo, as well as four more who were injured, but who are already out of the hospital.
“As soon as we learned of the accident, and following instructions by the State Governor, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, staff from our liaison office in Georgia immediately began the necessary steps with the Mexican Consulate in New Orleans and migrant leaders to contact the family of the victims and provide them with the necessary support and assistance”, said Guerra.
The Official added that authorities in Mississippi are continuing their investigations into the event, as it was a car accident, and are still processing the information.
Guerra Vallejo said that the SMEI has the “Safe Path for Migrants” program, through which financial support is extended to migrants and their families in:
- Transfer of remains from abroad and funeral expenses
- Humanitarian permits or visas with emergency appointments
- Other services to support them in difficult moments
The commitment of the Secretary for Migrants and International Liaison is to be close to Guanajuato migrants and their families when they need it most.
