On the sixth day of the promotional tour of Japan, the Guanajuato delegation, led by Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, met with representatives of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).

The Governor outlined actions that strengthen the Guanajuato-Japan relationship, attracting investment, cultural and academic exchanges, and proposals for a high-profile, sustainable, and culturally distinctive tourism attraction strategy.
Libia said that, despite the uncertainty surrounding the international market, the automotive industry remains a driving force for development, and Guanajuato remains a very important hub for production and exports to the United States, Latin America, and the Mexican market itself.

“Investments like those we’ve achieved on this working tour show us that both, automotive and supplier companies are investing and continue to invest in Mexico and Guanajuato,” said Libia.
“Companies such as Honda, Toyota, and Mazda agree that production forecasts for the end of 2025 will be equal to or higher than the 2024 target; therefore, there have been no contractions or decreases in production, but rather a great opportunity to strengthen local value and supply chains. Training and strengthening of the local production chain have been requested to meet the necessary production needs,” the Governor explained.

Mio Kawada, Vice President of JETRO, said the corporation’s role is to encourage and assist Japanese investors in choosing investment locations and to support Japanese companies already established in other countries, such as the 1,300 companies located in Guanajuato.
“We have 73 offices in 52 countries, including one in Mexico since 1958. We’re always looking for innovative companies to do business with,” said Kawada.
“We must provide current and detailed information to Guanajuatense business owners, and we conduct ongoing economic studies,” said the Vice President.
Afterward, the Guanajuatense secretaries shared with the JETRO members some of their achievements in Japan during the Promotional Tour.

The Secretary of Culture, Lizeth Galvan Cortes, said that in addition to establishing various exchanges involving crafts, design, and architecture, an invitation was extended to the Tokyo Ballet Company to participate in the International Cervantino Festival in 2027.
The Secretary of Tourism and Identity, Maria Guadalupe Robles Leon, explained that during the tour, destination presentations were held in various parts of Japan and informational seminars were held for specialized travel agents in Osaka, Nagoya, and Tokyo.

In Guanajuato, the United States leads the tourism outbound market, followed by Colombia in second place, then comes Spain, and Japan is fourth place. The Secretary noted that in 2024, 155,000 Japanese visitors came to Guanajuato.
The Secretary of Economy, Claudia Cristina Villasenor Aguilar, said that several high-tech investment projects stand out, which will be located in Guanajuato for the first time, in addition to support for Japanese companies in the manufacturing sector.
Villasenor said that they bet on sustainability policies, where companies have a socially responsible approach, in line with the 2030 Agenda.

Joint projects Japan-Guanajuato are promoted
During a meeting of the Mexican Ambassador to Japan, Melba Pria, and the delegation of the Guanajuato government, the feasibility of developing various productive projects in collaboration of the two parties was discussed.
Among the initiatives analyzed, the following stand out:
- Promoting startups with technological and innovation ties between Japan and Guanajuato
- The possibility of adapting a renowned Japanese fashion forum as a model to strengthen textile companies in Moroleon, Uriangato, and Yuriria
- Collaboration programs in the agricultural sector

Farewell to Guanajuato
The Guanajuato delegation was invited to a reception by the Parliamentary Vice Minister of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Eri Arfiya, who, on behalf of the Japanese government, thanked the government for its support of Japanese companies in Guanajuato.
“In such a changing international environment as the current one, there is a strong relationship between Japan and Mexico, and it is more important than ever,” said the Deputy Minister.

The Governor noted that it was of utmost importance that her first international tour is to Japan, as it is a country with a broad commercial, cultural, and friendship ties with Guanajuato, as evidenced by the fact that more than 2,000 Japanese residents live in Guanajuato.
“For us, this tour has been productive. We’ve had very important meetings. This meeting also allows us to better understand the vision of political work in Japan and to meet with you, Vice Minister; we want to continue cultivating ties of friendship with Japan,” said the Governor.
