Guanajuato strengthens role in economic leadership

With a close collaboration of the Secretary of Economy of Guanajuato and the Federal Government, actions are enforced to strengthen local economies

AMSDE promotes actions that boost the country’s economic development, focusing on job creation and business growth

In the Fifth Ordinary General Assembly of the Mexican Association of Secretaries of Economic Development (AMSDE) 2024, the Secretary of Economy of Guanajuato, Claudia Cristina Villasenor Aguilar, was appointed member of the Board of Directors of this Association.

The People’s Government, led by Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, promotes public policies focused on strengthening the local economy, attracting strategic investments and generating formal jobs, to improve the living conditions of Guanajuatense families.

In the session, the commitment of the states to work together to align themselves with the objectives of national economic development was reaffirmed, contributing to the strengthening of the country’s local and regional economies.

Also, Marco Antonio Del Prete was ratified as president of AMSDE, which guarantees the continuity of important inter-institutional cooperation projects and the exchange of best practices between the Mexican States.

In the new structure of the Board of Directors, Guanajuato was appointed to occupy the position of member, together with the State of Mexico, consolidating the commitment of all states to coordinate to strengthen the economic development of the country.

A working meeting was held between AMSDE and the federal Secretary of Economy, chaired by Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, who highlighted the importance of collaboration by the States and the federal government to maximize the positive effects of investment projects in Mexico.

The Investment Project Portfolio was presented in this meeting, which aims to promote regional development and strengthen local economies by attracting investment. This joint work is key to ensuring balanced and sustainable economic development throughout the country.

The appointment of Secretary Villasenor reinforces Guanajuato’s position as a benchmark in the country’s economic development.

Guanajuato has managed to establish itself as one of the most dynamic states in several key areas:

• In 2022, Guanajuato’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reached 63,593 million dollars, which represents a notable growth, doubling its value in the last 20 years
• Guanajuato has maintained its leadership in exports, exceeding 33.4 billion dollars in 2023, which positioned it as the sixth exporting state in Mexico and the first outside the northern border

• In labor, Guanajuato continues to be a pillar in the generation of formal jobs, with more than 1 million 129 thousand Guanajuatenses registered with the IMSS. This achievement reflects the State’s commitment to the creation of quality jobs for Guanajuato families
• Foreign Direct investment -FDI- has been a key driver for the development of the State, accumulating more than 23,782 million dollars in the last 18 years, which has allowed for a solid competitive infrastructure for industrial growth
