Guanajuato strengthens its leadership in meetings tourism

With six MICE destinations (Leon, Guanajuato City, Silao, San Miguel De Allende, Celaya and Irapuato) Guanajuato becomes a strategic destination in Central Mexico

Meetings Tourism has consolidated Guanajuato, under the People’s Government, as a world-class destination

The People’s Government, led by Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, is moving forward with determination in consolidating Guanajuato as one of the leading destinations in meetings tourism (MICE) in Mexico. 

Under this vision, the Secretary of Tourism and Identity, led by Lupita Robles Leon, is working in a coordinated manner to position Guanajuato as host of the MPI Mexico 2026 National Congress, one of the most important events for professionals in the country’s meetings industry.

As part of the venue selection process, the MPI Mexico Chapter conducted an inspection visit to the city of Leon in December 2025. This visit was crucial for evaluating the hotel infrastructure, connectivity, venues, logistics capacity, and tourism offer of the destination.

For three days, representatives of the Organizing Committee, including Hugo Rosas Guzmán, president-elect of MPI Mexico, will tour facilities, venues, and strategic attractions, with the SECTURI team. 

The MPI Mexico National Congress brings together national and international specialists in panels and conferences on trends, sustainability, innovation, and the future of the MICE industry. It also fosters networking among planners, suppliers, destinations, and companies, generating business alliances, creating opportunities, and strengthening the professionalization of the sector.

In its 2025 edition, this event brought together more than 300 participants in Mexico City, including a large delegation from Guanajuato comprised of representatives from Leon, Guanajuato City, Silao, San Miguel de Allende, Irapuato, and Celaya. The organizers plan to hold the edition in July 2026, presenting a unique opportunity for Guanajuato to solidify its position as a host for a high-level event.

Guanajuato is part of the Bajio Mexicano MPI Chapter, along with San Luis Potosi and Aguascalientes, and continues to position itself as a national leader in infrastructure, professionalization, and tourism offer for the MICE segment.

With the support of the People’s Government and the strategic vision of the Secretary of Tourism and Identity, Guanajuato reaffirms its commitment to attract world-class events that boost economic activity, strengthen the sector’s competitiveness, and solidify Guanajuato as a world-class host destination.
