Guanajuato/Gto News
Guanajuato, for the second consecutive year, ranks first among the States of Mexico with the largest number of seized firearms.
This is reported by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography -INEGI-, through the National Census of Federal and State Attorney General 2022, in the category of firearms seized by the State Attorney General’s Offices.
Guanajuato and Baja California are the two states that concentrate the largest number of seized weapons; with 2 thousand 176 and 2 thousand respectively.
The two entities States concentrated 19.2 percent of the national total, according to the INEGI report.
After these two States, next are:
- Tamaulipas with 1,596
- Mexico City with 1,518
- Jalisco with 1,442
- Sonora with 1,351
This is the result of the work done in Guanajuato by the three levels of government and society to combat crime.
To get these numbers, coordination between the elements that make up the Public Security Forces, the State Attorney General’s Office, as well as the Secretary of National Defense and the National Guard has been essential; and civil society that participates in the State Public Security Council.
This is the second year that Guanajuato is one of the States in Mexico that seizes the most weapons and removes them from the streets.
The National Federal and State Law Enforcement Census aims to generate statistical and geographic information on the management and performance of the State Prosecutor’s Offices and Attorney General’s Offices.
