At a large Citizens’ Roundtable on Security and Justice in Leon, the Government of the People reaffirmed its commitment to security, working strategically and comprehensively, with intelligence and coordination, which has allowed for significant progress and the arrest of perpetrators of violence in Guanajuato.

Representing Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, Secretary of Government Jorge Daniel Jimenez Lona, with the Secretary of Security and Peace Juan Mauro Gonzalez Martinez, participated in the Citizen Board on Security and Justice in Leon, chaired by Francisco Gutierrez Manrique.

“The Governor has instructed us all to stop saying, ‘It’s not my job, that’s federal.’ Through her leadership, she has called on neighboring governors to strengthen their work and take concrete actions regarding security,” said Secretary of Government Jorge Daniel Jimenez Lona.

Jorge Daniel noted that Guanajuato is making progress with concrete security actions, including operations to seize slot machines, as well as combating piracy, extortion, and kidnapping.

“There are eight checkpoints on federal highways, including those from other states like Jalisco; this reflects a collaborative effort with the municipalities and the Federal government. Today, we have arrests of perpetrators of violence, thanks to intelligence work that has led to the arrest of those operating in Guanajuato,” he said.

Jimenez Lona recognized the work being done by the municipality of Leon in terms of security, and said he will continue to work with the Attorney General’s Office and the Judiciary.

The Secretary of Security and Peace, Juan Mauro Gonzalez Martinez, highlighted that, from March to April, there was a 43.1 percent decrease in homicides, a figure that places Guanajuato in sixth place nationwide per 100,000 inhabitants.

Gonzalez noted that one of the initiatives that has yielded the best results is the seizure of illicit fuel, reaching nearly 1.3 million liters secured from September 2024 to date, which reflects the coordination efforts among the various agencies.

In addition to these actions, the Official highlighted those carried out through the Undersecretary of Prevention, which, through cultural, social, planning, coordination, sports, and social violence prevention activities, strengthens social cohesion and contributes to reducing antisocial and criminal behavior in priority areas.

The meeting was also attended by Mayor of Leon, Alejandra Gutierrez Campos; the Attorney General of Leon, Gerardo Vazquez Alatriste; the Archbishop of Leon, Jaime Calderon Calderon; as well as representatives of the Mexican Bar f Lawyers Association, the Leon Notary Association, the Monterrey Technical University (TEC), and civil society leaders.
