Thanks to the collaboration of the Institute of Literacy and Basic Education for Adults (INAEBA) and the Plaza Mayor Foundation, more people have managed to earn their primary and secondary school certificates, contributing to the reduction of education backlog in Guanajuato.

During the ceremony to present officially valid documents, the general director of INAEBA, Jose Jesus Correa Ramirez, noted the efforts of each beneficiary to continue their academic training. “Leon can only change with the effort of each one of you and with your example. Studying after the first opportunity has passed us by is an effort. You are no longer part of the list of those lagging behind in education. You are special. Wherever you go, feel special, because you are”.

The Plaza Mayor Foundation has been an ally of INAEBA in reducing education backlog and illiteracy, offering its collaborators the possibility of resuming or beginning their studies without interfering with their work responsibilities. Alejandro Arena Barroso, president of the foundation’s board of trustees, recognized the work of the institute: “I would especially like to congratulate Jose Jesus Correa, because INAEBA is in first place in Mexico; there is no other State that has as many primary and secondary school graduates as Guanajuato”.

Arena Barroso also noted the commitment with migrants of the Government of the State of Guanajuato, led by Governor Libia Denisse Garcia Munoz Ledo. Through INAEBA, they have the opportunity to attend primary and secondary school remotely, and use their certificates as valid identification documents in 54 consulates in the United States, 2 in Canada and 2 in Europe.

In the event, basic education certificates were awarded to those who successfully completed these levels. Among the stories, the one of Claudia Berenice Mendoza Caudillo and her daughter Esmeralda stand out, they celebrated their graduation together, Claudia from secondary school and Esmeralda from primary school.

“I am very happy because my daughter finished her primary school. A friend told me that they offered open primary school classes, and although due to the pandemic my children could not finish, now, thanks to INAEBA, she was able to do it,” shared Claudia. “I tell people to go for it, yes you can! Before I felt frustrated because I had not completed my studies and I could be hired in a company. But now, thanks to this effort, I already have the opportunity to do it,” said Claudia.

INAEBA managed to reduce education backlog by one percentage point during 2024. According to figures from the National Institute of Adult Education (INEA), in Guanajuato there was a 30.1% of the population aged 15 and over in a situation of education gap. By the end of 2024, this figure was reduced to 29.1%.
