With the aim of making visible and raising awareness of comprehensive care for human trafficking in Mexico and Guanajuato, the Secretary of Government held the Virtual Forum on Human Trafficking and Vulnerable Groups.
The Undersecretary for Political Liaison, Elvira Paniagua Rodriguez, representing the Secretary of Government, Jesus Oviedo Herrera, noted that attention to this global problem demands cross-cutting actions between society and government.
“Trafficking of persons is always linked to groups in a situation of vulnerability since it settles and takes advantage of precisely the aspects of the people, girls, boys, women and men, exploited in clandestinity,” said Paniagua.
In Mexico, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime –UNDOC-, said the Undersecretary, includes eleven forms of exploitation, among which work, marriage and forced begging stand out, situations that always affect people in situations of vulnerability, usually due to discrimination, poverty or disability.
“Social programs are essential to protect people from social lag, educational programs so that they return to class, are essential for the future of our State, we are a transparent Government and respectful of the rule of law, but the challenges are multiple and they express themselves in crimes like this”, said Paniagua.
“This State Administration has especially sought to reach women and girls, strengthen the living conditions of people with disabilities, we serve migrants who pass through our State, to prevent as much as possible that they are victims of this crime”, informed Paniagua.
The Undersecretary for Political Relations urged the authorities of the three levels of government and society in general to participate in the prevention and treatment of human trafficking.
“We must all be alert, train and prevent children, fathers and mothers, the educational sector, and these forums always raise awareness, help us discern and reflect on pending issues,” said the Undersecretary.
The most recent United Nations Report highlighted that the crime of trafficking fell 11 percent, however, the recent crises facing the world such as the pandemic, war and climate change have weakened detection capacity by the authorities.
