Guanajuato does great at Excellence Awards for being a destination proud of its culture, history, tradition and folklore

SECTUR strengthens ties of collaboration with international tourism actors, and important Spanish commercial partners

Guanajuato, a tourist destination that won two Excellence Awards, positioned itself in the mind and interest of tourists through communication, public relations and marketing strategies designed by the Ministry of Tourism, recognized by SECTUR Mexico for the excellent work of disseminating the tourist offer during FITUR 2024.

The International Tourism Fair -FITUR- was a great stage for tourism promotion for Guanajuato. In the first month of the year, the SECTUR GTO, led by Juan Jose Alvarez Brunel, successfully presented the products, destinations, attractions and tourist benefits to the actors in world tourism and Madridians; and strengthened alliances with important Spanish trade partners.

The presence of Guanajuato was visible and captivating in Madrid, Spain, for 5 days -from January 24 to 28-; however, the treasures that the destination has will be promoted throughout the year to various audiences through the dissemination channels of wholesale travel agencies thanks to the agreements of SECTUR and NUBA (luxury tourism), CATAI, AVASA and Viajes El Corte Ingles and, thus, continue promoting the growing flow of Spanish tourists -3rd. market by visitors- to Guanajuato.

In a constant and uninterrupted manner, the State of Guanajuato has participated in recent years in FITUR, one of the main events of the tourism industry worldwide and leader for Ibero-American markets, presenting the destination in an attractive way through presentations of destination.

This time SECTUR fostered a closer relationship with 72 travel agents from NUBA and CATAI, who offer in their travel programs the two World Heritage Cities of Guanajuato and tourist experiences to vineyards and tequila factories.

Likewise, representatives of the four agencies and directors of Aeromexico, Planet IFE, Museo del Prado, Teatro Real, Conexstur, Avoris and media outlets such as 20 Minutos, Revista Viajar, Radio InterEconomia, RTVE, had a gastronomic experience, learned about the offer of Dolores Hidalgo CIN and tasted their award-winning wine, so that they could include it in their promotional campaigns.

At the Guanajuato stand, at IFEMA, Alvarez Brunel and Lupita Robles Leon, Undersecretary of Tourism Promotion, directors of SECTUR and Guanajuato’s tourism sector were at more than 30 business meetings with tourism actors and information was ‘disseminated’ about cultural and gastronomic festivals, traditional festivals, experiences and tourist routes to more than 500 people.

Also, all those interested in the experiences offered by our State lived the virtual experience “Guanajuato is closer than you think” with 3D viewers that allowed users to visit various destinations.

Another great scenario of the tourist offer that SECTUR caused was “Casa Guanajuato”, in the Torcuato Restaurant, in the Salamanca neighborhood, which was visited by more than 600 Madrid residents and tourists.

In this place, Guanajuato delighted and enchanted attendees with the gastronomy by chef Lucy Noriega and traditional cook Sara Arvizu; with Tequila Corralejo mixology by Candy Perez; and with various cardboard workshops run by the artisan Hermes Arroyo; all of this surrounded by a Guanajuato atmosphere and enlivened by the music of the Dolorese singer-songwriter Jose Alfredo Jimenez “El Rey”.

The actions carried out by SECTUR were enriched with agreements to strengthen the gastronomic strategy through “Endemico Guanajuato, the Culinary Footprint” that will integrate Guanajuato gastronomy for summer 2024 in Guanajuato.

Miguel Torruco Marques, Secretary of Federal Tourism, and the Secretaries of Tourism of Sonora, Baja California, Yucatan, Tabasco, Nayarit, Aguascalientes and Guerrero; as well as 101 students and teachers from the Higher School of Hospitality and Tourism of Madrid were also witnesses of the successful presentation of Guanajuato’s offer, which was enriched with a presentation of the brand’s tourism promotion strategy “Guanajuato, Live Great Stories”.

Spanish media promoted the experiences and successful collaborative work that SECTUR maintains to take Guanajuato to a superior level.

During FITUR, the program “Blind Eating” was recorded on Radio Intereconomia, where the Guanajuato chef Lucy Noriega, the traditional cook Sara Arvizu and the mixologist Candy Perez participated with the presenter Jonathan Armengol, where the importance of endemic gastronomy and the strength of local wines and spirits as travel motivators in the tourist experiences that can be lived in Guanajuato were highlighted.
