Governor of Guanajuato Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, inaugurated the new Webasto facilities, located in VYNMSA Industrial Park, in the municipality of Guanajuato, where chargers for electric vehicles will be manufactured.
“Here at Webasto Charging, chargers for electric vehicles are already being manufactured. These are the industries that come to strengthen our development with a vision of the future. For this reason, in Guanajuato we feel very proud to have a world-class company like Webasto in our territory,” said Governor Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo.
The Webasto Group is a company of German origin founded in 1901 and is currently a global leader in the supply chain of the automotive sector, considered one of the 100 largest suppliers to the industry.
This company, in addition to making charging systems for electric cars, also makes innovative sunroofs, panoramic roofs, convertible roofs, and pioneering heating and cooling solutions.
The company has a presence in Guanajuato since 2009; It was one of the first German companies to establish operations in Castro del Rio, Irapuato, where it invested 6 million dollars.
Webasto started manufacturing operation of sunroofs, which are sent to Rochester Hills, Michigan, Arlington, Texas, as well as India, Brazil, and Chattanooga Tennessee, in the USA.
In 2021, Webasto had more than 928 employees, with Mazda, in Salamanca; GM, in Arlington; VW, in Puebla and Chatanooga; Audi, in Puebla; Daimler, in Aguascalientes; Ford, in Hermosillo and Cuatitlan and Toyota, in San Antonio.
On August 20, 2019, the Governor, Rodriguez Vallejo, was at the expansion of the sunroof production plant, in which 28 million dollars were invested.
Today, its new Webasto Charging project was inaugurated with an investment of 51.6 million dollars, which will make it posible to create 317 new jobs in the manufacture of chargers for electric vehicles.
The start of operations of this expansion was in November 2022, with three lines of chargers, for this 2023 there are another six lines of chargers, to complete nine. A new expansion will be required by 2024.
The current production volume is 328 thousand pieces, with an installed capacity of 474 thousand 900 pieces.
“Congratulations because we have a great future, we are both betting on the future through electromobility,” said the Governor.
Webasto was founded in 1901 as a manufacturer of perforated parts, wire hangers and household appliances. Since then, the company has become a global partner for innovative systems for almost every car manufacturer in the world.
With innovative allies like Webasto, Guanajuato continues to advance, with firm steps, in its economic reactivation and in its transition from manufacturing to manufacturing.
