“In Guanajuato we breathe and grow with soccer,” said the Governor as she inaugurated the FIFA World Cup Original Trophy Tour

“Today, the heart of Guanajuato beats to the same rhythm as the heart of the world: to the rhythm of a ball rolling across the field. To speak of soccer in Guanajuato is not to speak of a pastime; it is to speak of our blood, our tradition, and our pride,” said the Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, while participating in the Inauguration of the Original FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour.
In Guanajuato we breathe and grow with football, the Governor emphasized as she led this event in the lead-up to the 2026 World Cup, in the sixth edition of the Trophy Tour that travels through more than 70 countries for more than 170 days.
“For me it is a true honor to be here, what we have in front of us is an iconic trophy, the dream of millions of footballers, the desire of nations and fans, it is the symbol of the pinnacle of effort, it is pure history,” said the State Governor.
In Mexico, the World Cup will visit 10 cities over 25 days, and León was chosen as one of them. On March 4th and 5th, fans will be able to see the most coveted trophy in football up close at the Poliforum facilities.
This represents an opportunity to connect history, identity and future, said the Governor, who posed next to the famous trophy.

- It is made of 18-karat gold with a malachite base
The greatest award in international football can only be touched by world champions and heads of State, which is why Edmilson Gomes de Moraes, World Champion with the Brazilian National Team in Korea-Japan 2002, visited the city of Leon as a Legend invited by FIFA.
After the official ceremony, Governor Libia Dennise enjoyed an immersive experience where fans could relive historic moments of the World Cup, appreciate the balls from each edition, and admire official posters and jerseys worn by World Champions.
The 23rd edition of the 2026 FIFA World Cup represents a strategic opportunity for Guanajuato; therefore, the People’s Government is promoting a comprehensive tourism campaign to position Guanajuato as a complementary destination.
Guanajuato promotes its tourism offer under a clear vision: tourism with identity, sustainable and with economic benefits for families, due to its proximity to host cities such as Mexico City and Guadalajara, which place it in a privileged location to attract national and international visitors.
Present at this event were Alejandra Gutierrez Campos, Mayor of Leon and other Municipal and State Officials and Directors of companies.
