The People’s Government, through the Secretary of Tourism and Identity, celebrated the historic success of the seventh edition of the Day of the Dead Festival “Guanajuato ¡Vívelo!”, which exceeded all expectations with an influx of more than 400,000 visitors, consolidating the Capital City and the State as benchmarks of cultural tourism in Mexico and the world.

Authorities acknowledged the joint effort of municipalities, business chambers, artists, artisans, volunteers and Guanajuatense families that made this achievement possible.

“Cultural tourism not only generates economic activity: it generates pride, a sense of belonging, and well-being for our people. With each visitor, each photograph, each shared story, Guanajuato reaffirms its leadership as one of the cultural hearts of Mexico,” noted David Ayala, Director General of Tourism Development at SECTURI, who presented the data.

The seventh annual Day of the Dead Festival, “Guanajuato ¡Vivelo!”, took place from October 29 to November 3, 2025, featuring parades, monumental altars, food tastings, concerts, and theatrical performances in the main plazas, tunnels, and historical spots of the capital city. According to public secutity reports, the event saw a 38 percent increase in visitors compared to the previous year.
The festival featured San Luis Potosi, through Real de Catorce; Veracruz, with Catemaco; and China as guests of honor, strengthening cultural exchange and showcasing Guanajuato as a living window of Mexican tradition to the world.

Meanwhile, Booking.com reported a 60 percent increase in searches for accommodations in Guanajuato during the season, surpassing even beach destinations like Puerto Vallarta and Playa del Carmen.

Day of the Dead was celebrated in all 46 municipalities of the State, with particularly strong participation in 14 of them, distributed across four regions:
- In the North-Central Region, Guanajuato City, Leon, Silao, and Purisima del Rincon offered experiences that blended history and modernity
- In the Northern Region, San Miguel de Allende and Dolores Hidalgo, Cradle of National Independence, celebrated with art and historical festivals
- In the Northeast Region, Doctor Mora, Mineral de Pozos, and Victoria showcased the strength of rural communities through vibrant performances
- In the South-Southeast Region, municipalities such as Yuriria, Celaya, Valle de Santiago, Jerecuaro, Moroleon, Tarandacuao, and Tarimoro blended rituals, innovation, and tradition

All the celebrations in the State demonstrated that the Day of the Dead in Guanajuato is an experience that transcends generations and territories.
