The Government of Guanajuato, through the Secretary of Environment and Territorial Planning -SMAOT-, has strengthened the Air Quality Monitoring System of the State of Guanajuato -SIMEG- in recent years.
With the renewal of 47% of the equipment at the SIMEG monitoring stations and the expansion in Penjamo and Dolores Hidalgo coverage increased from 66 to 72%.
Guanajuato reaffirms its commitment to citizens by implementing an advanced air quality monitoring system, aligned with the guidelines of the World Health Organization -WHO-.
According to the WHO, air pollution is one of the main environmental health risks, responsible for approximately 7 million premature deaths per year globally.
With SIMEG, Guanajuato provides real-time data on the levels of atmospheric pollutants, allowing timely measures to be taken to improve air quality and protect the health of Guanajuatenses.
Guanajuato is one of the States that are at the forefront in Mexico in generating information on air quality, it has the second largest monitoring network in the country after Mexico City, with 23 stations in 13 municipalities.
The SIMEG is among the 8 systems in Mexico, other States are:
- CDMX, Guanajuato, Nuevo Leon, Jalisco, San Luis Potosi, Queretaro, Puebla and Veracruz
- These systems have their own website to publish continuous information
Guanajuato is one of the 4 States that have an application for mobile devices, others are:
- CDMX, Guanajuato, Nuevo Leon, San Luis Potosi
The system operators collaborate with local universities -University of Guanajuato, Technological University of Leon and Technological University of Salamanca- in the supervision of the monitoring network and the operation of the Gravimetry Laboratory.
