Guanajuato/Gto News
The year 2022 closed with a downward trend in cases of pregnancies in children under 18 years of age in the Gto Health System.
Until October last year, 12,214 had been reported in girls under 19 years of age, while in the previous year there were 14,223 cases, whereas in the first year of the pandemic in 2020, 15 thousand 396 cases were reported on official platforms.
One of the programs that the Gto Health System implements in the 46 municipalities is the “Sexual and Reproductive Health for Adolescents” service, reported Dr. Daniel Alberto Diaz Martinez.
In Guanajuato, this trend has continued downward since 2010, when 21,316 pregnancies in minors were registered in the state of Guanajuato, and in 2002 it shot up to 22,460 cases, from that year, which was the highest peak began a sharper, more noticeable decline.
The UMAPS offer coverage of services and long-acting reversible contraceptives, for those who wish to space their next pregnancy for a longer period of time.
Daniel Diaz explained that adolescent pregnancy is a multifactorial problem that has repercussions, altering the life project of the adolescent who becomes pregnant, her partner, and her family, and has important negative repercussions on the health and psychosocial development of the adolescent.
To facilitate access to Sexual and Reproductive Health Services, there are 70 Friendly Services that are spaces specially designed to provide sexual and reproductive health care to adolescents.
These services are offered inside medical units of the Gto Health System and provide information, guidance, counseling, medical care, psychological care, provision of contraceptive methods, among others, to women and men from 10 to 19 years of age.
