In the third quarter of 2024, Guanajuato registered an economic growth of 5.3%, compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the most recent data from the Quarterly Indicator of State Economic Activity (ITAEE). This growth places Guanajuato in 5th place nationwide in terms of economic growth.
This result is the result of the constant work of the People’s Government, headed by Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, who has focused her efforts on maintaining a strong, stable economy aimed at improving opportunities for all Guanajuatenses.
The Secretary of Economy, Claudia Cristina Villasenor Aguilar, noted that the results obtained in the third quarter are the result of the continuity of the public policies adopted by the current administration.
“The economic growth we are seeing is the result of attracting investments, promoting micro, small and medium-sized enterprises -MSMEs- and strengthening our prosperity ecosystems, as well as an increasingly skilled human capital,” said Villasenor.
Guanajuato’s growth has been driven mainly by two sectors:
- The secondary sector (industry and manufacturing) which grew by 9.8%
- The tertiary sector (services) which increased by 2.7%
From January to September 2024, Guanajuato recorded an economic growth of 3.9%, above the national average of 1.8%, placing it in 5th place nationwide. During this period, the secondary sector grew by 6.0%, while the tertiary sector increased by 2.8%.
The dynamism of the Guanajuatense economy is the result of a set of strategies that have consolidated the State as one of the strongest economies in Mexico. The Government of the People has placed special emphasis on ensuring that economic development translates into better life opportunities for Guanajuatense families.
The professionalization of the Guanajuatense talent is another of the pillars that drive the growth of the State. Through specialized training programs, the State Government contributes to improve the skills of Guanajuatense residents and ensure that they are prepared for the challenges of the current labor market.
Besides, local Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises continue to be supported through innovation programs that allow them to remain competitive and sustainable over time.
The results achieved are the result of collaboration of the three levels of government and the private sector, aiming to create more and better sources of employment.
The Secretary of Economy noted that, despite global challenges, the State continues to stand out for its robust economy and its ability to adapt to changes, always with the vision of a Guanajuato that is prosperous and full of opportunities.
