Migration is a -must deal with- for the Government of the State of Guanajuato, because of what migrants bring, contribute and develop, and this administration shows this level of responsibility and commitment, as an example the Secretary of Migrant was created.
A firm commitment
Juan Hernandez, the leader of the Secretary of Migrant and International Affairs –SMEI- in his message for the start of the 1st International Forum, said that, the commitment of Governor Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo is firm and it is on the side of migrants.
“In the public agenda presented by the State of Guabajuato, staff of this Secretary and migrant people have been described as a priority for the progress of our State. That is why our Secretary is the organism in charge of: designing, presenting, coordinating, applying, promoting and informing about the public policies on hospitality, intercultural behaviour, international relations, integral assistance and the respect to the rights of migrants, their families and communities”, said Hernandez.
With dignity
The Secretary said that this effort aims to position Guanajuato as an international referent and the epicenter of the analysis of Migration and actions that assist migrants and treat them with dignity.
Hernandez said that this will lead to collaboration alliances with institutions in the world and will bring migrants a benefit.
Community work
In the event the “Migrant Leader 2021” was honored, in this case it was two people honored because of their work for their communities, they are: Braulio Delgado Acosta and Isaret Jeffers.
Braulio was born in 1969 in Huanimaro, in the town of Los Otates. He is a hard working person and he is an entrepreneur, he went to the United States in 1987. He arrived in San Diego, California.
For the needy
He is the president of Club Otates United, and they do different works of infrastructure and also food assistance for the needey in his community, today he lives in Washington.
“This award I receive today, I receive it, but it is for all the United Migrants of Otates. We fight for the migrant families of Guanajuato, obviously we can’t do anything without the support of the Government and the Government of Guanajuatenses helps us a lot, with projects to move on”, said Delgado Acosta.
Honors way to Florida
Isaret Jeffers was honored virtually. Jeffers is the President and founder of the group “Arbol” and she is the leader of the Federation of Guanajuatenses in Florida. She said she is glad of being honored as a recognition for her work for the community.
Left their countries behind
Giovanni Lepri, the representative in Mexico of the High Commissioner Office of the United Nations for Refugees said that, our country turned not only into a country that sends out migrants, but also a destination country for many refugees who left their countries behind.
“I think Guanajuato is an example, but a positive example of how this type of support can be provided, this type of protection for people who come trying to be part of this community”, said Lepri.
A space of dialogue
Dana Graber Ladek, the representative of the International Organization of Migrants –IOM- said that this international organism hails the effort of the State to promote a space of dialogue that can increase the knowledge, comprehension and collective reflection on the migration phenomenon.
