Guanajuato is a national example in energy management and combat to climate change.
According to the Energy Management and Climate Change Index –IGECC-; of the periods 2020-2021 and 2022-2023, Guanajuato heads the list of States and Municipalities evaluated in their actions in energy management and combat of climate change.
This was announced by Hans Blomeier, director of the Konrad Adenanuer Mexico Foundation –KAS-, during the inauguration of the ‘Municipal Strategic Planning Seminar for Sustainable Development’, in which he noted the collaboration of Guanajuato in generating public policies that strengthen sustainability and orderly development of the territory.
The IGECC is an index created by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation of Mexico, the result of research and analysis of public data, organized under a methodology aligned with important international initiatives that seek to combat climate change, reduce climate-related financial risks and promote the adoption of renewable energies.
In this sense, the Seminar, organized by the Ministry of Environment and Territorial Planning –SMAOT-, in coordination with the KAS, aims to share updated and proven strategies, so that participants can structure action projects in their municipal development plans, where the pillars, strategies, goals and objectives are reflected from a social, economic, environmental and territorial perspective, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals –SDG- and their indicators.
“Understanding that sustainability with that balance between the economic, the environmental and the social, this seminar seeks to make these exchanges of municipal challenges, because in the end the sum of what we do in each of the 46 municipalities is what will allow us to ensure that future for Guanajuato, Mexico and the world, the 2030 agenda integrates a key objective which is the generation of alliances, SDG 17 speaks of the importance of generating alliances, that is what we are doing, let us insist in this alliance of collaboration and cooperation with the KAS”, said Maria Isabel Ortiz Mantilla.
“This is what we have done over time with various international cooperation; in Guanajuato we bring the best of Guanajuato to the world and we bring the best of the world to Guanajuato, so that we can train ourselves, adapt it and now we will also be redoubling this alliance between all of us, this alliance for the sustainability of our State to ensure that future”, said the head of the SMAOT.
The seminar brought together more than 50 municipal officials from:
- Salamanca, Celaya, Leon, Irapuato, Dolores Hidalgo, San Miguel de Allende, Valle de Santiago, San Francisco del Rincon, Silao, Guanajuato, Apaseo el Grande, San Felipe and Romita
