Following instructions from the Governor of the State of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, the State Government, through the Secretary of Human Rights, established a protocol of Attention in its Liaison Office located in the City of Los Angeles, to support Guanajuatenses who are affected by the fires that occurred in California, in the United States.
According to the latest census in the US, more than 1 million Mexicans live in the City of Los Angeles, of which it is estimated that about 150,000 are from Guanajuato.
So far, the Human Rights Secretary has no reports of Guanajuatenses affected by these fires, however, the staff of the Liaison Office maintains permanent communication with the Mexican consular Officials and with the two evacuation centers in Los Angeles, where the affected families have arrived, none of whom are Guanajuatense.
Staff from the Liaison Office supports in the recovery of identity documents in case they have been lost in the fires, and will also support, if necessary, in channeling Guanajuatenses to receive support from the government of California, as well as from non-profit organizations.
Officials work with migrant clubs in California to address any needs that these groups detect.
