In the “Concours Mondial de Bruxelles”, Guanajuato wines were granted  24 medals in the Grand Gold, Gold and Silver categories, and place our State as the second destination with the highest number of distinctions in Mexico.

“Guanajuato shone in the world of wine and became a great reference,” said Governor, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, during the ‘Wine Week’, which was held June 4 to the 9.

This year, Guanajuato hosted one of the most prestigious international wine tasting competitions with more than 15 thousand samples.

Professional tasters blindly evaluated each of the wines with the aim of selecting the highest quality, without prejudice of the reputation of the label or its designation of origin.

“We are very proud of what we harvest in the State, in this great Land of Wines; Today the work we have done, between public and private initiatives, is reflected in the recognition of 12 Guanajuato wineries,” said the Governor.

The Secretary of Tourism of the State of Guanajuato, Juan Jose Alvarez Brunel, recognized the Guanajuato winegrowers for their professionalism, dedication and the passion they inject into each of their oenological projects and products to offer the customer the best wine from Mexico.

In this contest that was held in Leon, there was historic participation, where Mexico managed to place itself in the Top 5 of the medal-winning countries, only after Italy, France, Spain and Portugal.

The State of Baja California led the medal chart in Mexico, obtaining 61 medals for its wines, and Guanajuato was in second place with 24 distinctions.

The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles began in 1994 and is recognized worldwide as one of the best events of its category.

Carlos Borboa Suarez, director for Latin America and North America of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, said that Guanajuato wines are products of “a very high qualitative level that give aromatic expression and perfect balance to the senses.”

“They are winning wines that can stand up to any label from any region of the world and show the most positive side, being well executed at the oenological level of Mexico, the highlands and Guanajuato”, said Borboa.
