Governor reaffirms commitment with CSOs

Libia announces the creation of a Sub-secretary to support civil Organizations so that the resources go directly to these institutions, with total transparency

“Today I reaffirm my commitment to civil society organizations, they have our full support”, said the Governor of the State of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, when inaugurating the 3rd Mental Health Symposium “A New Beginning”, in the celebration of the 21st Anniversary of AFAPE León AC.

“I want to reaffirm that this Government of the People will work hand in hand with these social causes, to serve the most vulnerable population”, reiterated the Governor.

Libia noted that it is now 21 years of AFAPE, which represents a long journey of overcoming obstacles, learning and community work; “I recognize them, what was born in 2002 as a self-help group for people with schizophrenia, founded by José Antonio Jasso, has become an institution dedicated to the comprehensive support of patients with mental disorders”, said the Governor.

“You are an example of what can be achieved when society and the government join forces for the benefit of the people,” said the Governor.

Libia Dennise pointed out that a Sub-secretary for attention and support to Civil Society Organizations will be created so that the resources of the State Government will go directly to these organizations, with total transparency; “You will have all our support, because you help us to help those who need it most.”

Libia noted that they will start with mobile support days in all municipalities, where the participation of civil society organizations will be important because they address people’s issues.

“We would like to acknowledge the work of all the people of the Association of Family and Friends of Schizophrenic Patients of Leon; congratulations for these 21 years of work, of service to the community, of commitment to the people, and may there be more years of work for those who need it most”, said Libia.

“They can count on us to continue making this project great, to promote actions that strengthen people’s mental health,” said the Governor.

Libia Dennise noted that a mental health program will be promoted in the schools of Guanajuato, because it is necessary to address the mental health of girls and boys from childhood; since the purpose is “to have a physically and mentally strong population,” for which a team will also be formed with municipal governments, she said.

The Association of Family and Friends of Schizophrenic Patients (AFAPE) of León, Guanajuato AC offers psychiatric, psychological, and nutritional care, and provides a drug bank for people in vulnerable situations.

In 21 years, AFAPE León has grown significantly, serving more than 2,500 people per month.
