“I give you this flag, a symbol of the pride and trust that Guanajuatenses place on you; you are a generation of greatness and we wish you the greatest success”, said Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo.

The Governor led the flag ceremony for the Guanajuato High Performance Athletes who make up the Mexican delegation at the XXXIII Olympics and XVII Paralympic Games in Paris 2024.

“We look forward to seeing you in Paris, know that we will be with you from a distance in each competition; you represent the most valuable harvest of sport in Guanajuato; you are history, you are inspiration, you are the example that we want to follow,” said the Governor.

At the moment, the Guanajuato delegation is made up of 9 Olympic athletes and 3 Paralympians; the list could grow according to other validations from the Mexican Olympic Committee and the results of some competitions.

The 9 athletes from Guanajuato that are traveling to the Olympic Games are:

  • Laura Esther Galvan Rodriguez, in Athletics; Lizeth Rueda Santos, in Triathlon; Mathias Grande Kalionchiz, in bow; Erika Monserrat Rodriguez Suarez and Adair Zabdiel Gutierrez Prieto, in Mountain biking; Ricardo Ortiz Rivera, in Athletics (Walking); while Prisca Guadalupe Awiti Alcara and Paulina Lizbeth Martinez Claro will compete in Judo; and Andrea Palafox, in Women’s Rifle

The athletes that compete in Paralympics are:

  • Fabiola Ramirez Martinez, Angel de Jesus Camacho Ramirez and Jesus Alberto Gutierrez Bermudez will compete in Para-swimming

The Governor recognized the work of the coaches and support teams, since their work and effort is essential to go to the Olympics.

He also congratulated the families of the competitors, as the main pillar for this achievement.

Andrea Palafox received the Flag from the Governor, and on behalf of her colleagues she promised to offer her maximum effort in the competitions.

“We receive this flag on behalf of the athletes who will compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games”, said Palafox.

“We know the enormous responsibility it means to represent Guanajuato and Mexico in the greatest sporting event in the world; we are ready to reach the finish line, to achieve Olympic glory. We are the example of a nation and our State,” said the athlete.

Her teammates supported the commitment and thanked the support received from the State Government, their coaches and their families.

“I am going to give my best, I will put the name of Mexico at the top. I am sure that we will all give our best,” said competitor Angel Camacho.

“Wearing the colors of Mexico is something unique, we will do our best and we will continue working,” said the athlete Laura Galván.
