In the “Women 200 Years of Greatness” event, where the participation of women who have contributed to the governance and growth of Guanajuato was recognized, Governor, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, decreed September 13 of each year, as “State Day to commemorate and make visible the participation of women in the construction of our history.”
“Today, September 13, 2023, the three Powers of the State of Guanajuato are gathered and united to institutionalize the participation of women and make them visible in the movement of our history, but also in current times, because today women are protagonists”, said the Governor.
“Today we are issuing Government Decree 154,” said Rodriguez Vallejo.
This date was chosen, added the State Executive, because according to history, it was September 13, 1810 when Mrs. Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez gave the “heel strike” to warn those dissatisfied with the government of the time, that the conspiracy had been discovered.
And like “La Corregidora”, other women such as Leona Vicario, Maria Ignacia Rodriguez “La Guera Rodriguez”, Maria Josefa Marmolejo de Aldama, Tomasa Estevez, “The 100 Insurgent Women of Penjamo”, among many more, marked the history of Mexico with their interventions.
Today, women, said the Governor, are protagonists in decision-making positions and play prominent roles in all aspects of public, social, political, sports and economic life; that is why today your predecessors who paved the way are recognized.
The Governor launched the Call for the “Women who Inspire, Women Greatness” Award, which will recognize Guanajuatense women who have contributed to Guanajuato in the social, cultural, sports, academic, agricultural, entrepreneurial or in the fields of innovation and the promotion of peace.
This award will be awarded to Guanajuatense women by birth or who have been residents in the state in the last 5 years; candidate proposals can be registered in a link on the official page of the celebrations, from today until October 13.
At the event “Women 200 Years of Greatness” the Governor, Diego Sinhue, delivered a letter alluding to these 200 years as an thanking act to outstanding women in their work for Guanajuato.
“From the State Government we are reaffirming our commitment to all of you; that is why in Guanajuato we are working to guarantee empowerment, health, education and access to a dignified life for Guanajuatense women”, said the Governor.
“In this task we do not go alone; we have united the three levels of government, the three Powers of the State, in addition to organized civil society,” said the Governor of Guanajuato.
