The Government of the People reaffirms its commitment to bring socially meaningful infrastructure projects to the entire State of Guanajuato, according to Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo during the broadcast of the program “Connecting with the People.”

On this occasion, Libia Dennise was joined by Juan Pablo Perez Beltran, head of the Secretary of Public Works (SOP), to discuss the infrastructure projects underway and others being prepared throughout the State.

Among the projects mentioned, the Governor mentioned the La Libertad Boulevard, which will connect Dolores Hidalgo with San Miguel de Allende. “It’s a very important project to boost tourism and economic development in a particularly productive region with great growth potential,” said the Governor.

Work on this boulevard will be completed by July 31 of this year, with an investment of 3.025 billion pesos.

This project includes 28 kilometers of roadway, four lanes (two in each direction), a bicycle lane, side roads to facilitate local mobility, four vehicular bridges, four on-surface return lanes, four return lanes with lower ramps, two on surface interchanges, six pedestrian crossings, urban image and public lighting.

The State Governor acknowledged that this project has been challenging, especially due to a legal process on a 2.7-kilometer section in the Ejido de La Cieneguita. However, work continues, while the section that is protected will be completed later under another contract.

The Governor announced that regarding the Querétaro-Irapuato Passenger Train, the agreement with the Federal Government is for the State Government’s Public Works Secretariat to serve as the link between the municipalities and the Federation.

Four meetings have been held in this regard; the last one was held on April 25th. It is estimated that construction could begin in June of this year, with operations scheduled to begin in the second half of next year.

The route considers the use of existing right-of-way, and the train’s average speed is expected to be 135 kilometers per hour. “This passenger train will allow us to connect with Queretaro and Mexico City at a faster speed, and will allow us to continue this train’s route,” said the Governor.

The planned route goes through Apaseo el Grande, Celaya, Villagran, Salamanca, and Irapuato.

Another of the projects mentioned in this episode of Connecting with People was the Constituyentes Bridge in Celaya, with an investment of more than 184 million pesos, including an expansion, which is already 94 percent complete. This roadway is expected to open to traffic in early May.

Other projects highlighted by the Secretary of Public Works include a total of 41 projects underway, such as the Comanjilla branch of the Metropolitan Axis (first phase); the Southern Access to Jalpa de Canovas; the third phase of the La Noria-Las Palomas Road in Xichu.

When it comes to maintenance work, the Secretary of Public Works is nationally recognized as one of the best performers in road maintenance, which is why Guanajuato is recognized as one of the states with the best roads in the country.

In the Health sector the Uriangato, Romita, and San Felipe hospitals are being remodeled.

To understand the needs of the municipalities, the current administration has prioritized meetings with all mayors to listen to them; to date, 1,356 requests have been received, 70 of which are for public works projects.

But it’s not all about public works, said Libia Dennise, because the SOP is also in charge of connectivity, and we have a program called Free Internet for the People, which basically involves creating spaces for free internet access, including in schools and marginalized rural areas, thereby helping to bridge the digital divide.

This is the first phase of the project, in which we are enabling 1,449 spaces with free internet access in strategic locations in 22 municipalities, including rural areas and historically marginalized communities, explained Perez Beltran.

In the urban area of the Industrial Corridor, 1,120 sites connected via fiber optics and state-of-the-art technology were deployed, as well as another 329 sites enabled in rural communities via microwave. That is our reason for being in the Government of the People, concluded Governor Libia Dennise.
