A young fashion company in Guanajuato is beginning to write its own story in international markets.

It is Verne Magan, a family business dedicated to the manufacture of men’s leather shoes, and it is already exporting to the United States just two years after its founding, but with a lifetime of experience in the footwear industry, thanks to the support of COFOCE and the backing of the State Government .

The company was founded with a clear vision:
- To keep the family legacy alive in the footwear industry, but also to take a step towards internationalization
Building on the father’s experience in footwear manufacturing and the enthusiasm of the new generations, they decided to create this new business unit focused on the global market.

It was in 2024 that they began their association with COFOCE, an institution that accompanied them in their process of preparing to export through specialized advice and training in international competitiveness, logistics, quotations, export price formation and paper work.
Thanks to this preparation and the connection with international buyers, the company managed to complete its first export in 2025 to the United States, deafter a commercial opportunity was detected during the Sourcing Fair in Las Vegas, where COFOCE participated with companies in the fashion sector in August 2024.

“I think that something that sets us apart from the others is that we are very focused on craftsmanship and comfort above all else;we approached COFOCE because we were looking for clients abroad; our desire was to export from the beginning, and with the help of COFOCE we were able to meet this client and make contact,” said Mauricio A. Calvillo, businessman.
The footwear manufactured by the company is distinguished because it is one hundred percent leather, made with artisanal processes that prioritize comfort, durability and quality, characteristics that have been well valued by international buyers.

For the company, the path to exporting also represented a learning experience and an important challenge in terms of logistics, compliance with requirements and adaptation to the demands of the international market.
“Our biggest challenge was adapting to international requirements regarding delivery times, certifications, and quality,” said Juan Pablo A. Calvillo, businessman.

In addition to commercial growth, the company generates more than 20 jobs in Guanajuato, contributing to improve the quality of life of families that depend on this activity and strengthening the leather and footwear sector of the State.
Institutional support and business vision can open doors to new international opportunities for the State’s SMEs, consolidating the export legacy of Guanajuato and positioning local talent in global markets.
