Ford announced that they will produce the Primary Drive Unit that integrates the electric engine of the MACH-E vehicle

Irapuato/Gto News

“The automotive company Ford announced the investment of 273 million dollars in its Irapuato plant, focused on the Primary Drive Unit, which integrates both the electric motor and the transaxle of the propulsion system. This investment goes hand in hand with the vision of Mentefactura of the State Government”, said Governor Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo.

“We are very pleased with this announcement that confirms the trust in Guanajuato, we continue with good news for the State,” said the Governor.

Over the course of a year of operations in Guanajuato, this plant went from building transmissions for gasoline-powered vehicles to producing the primary unit for the Mustang Mach-E, which integrates both parts, the electric motor and the transaxle of the propulsion system.

Now called IEPC, Irapuato Electric Powertrain Center, (by its name in English), this plant supports the production of Cuautitlan Izcalli, as it is responsible for manufacturing Primary Drive Units for the manufacture of Mustang Mach-E, the first 100% electric mass-produced vehicle made in Mexico that is exported to more than 41 countries in America, Europe and Australia.

“We celebrate this decision, which we see as a recognition of the great work of our employees and the quality of the products we manufacture. This new stage allows us to create synergy between plants and drive development in the country,” said Ricardo Anaya, director of Manufacturing at Ford of Mexico and Latin America.

The IEPC has the most advanced manufacturing technology on the market, so the concept of Manufacturing 4.0 is present in the high automation of processes.

For one-year, employees were highly trained in the use of this new equipment, while the plant carried out practical tests to reach the highest quality standards and thus ensure the correct production of these units.

Ford Motor Company is a global company based in Dearborn, Michigan, that develops and offers Lincoln pickup trucks, utility vehicles, commercial vans and luxury vehicles, as well as connected services.

Ford of Mexico began operations in 1925 as the first automobile company in the country. Today it has 14,600 employees. It has Stamping and Assembly plants in Hermosillo and Cuautitlan.
