To boost the production of ornamental sunflowers in this region of Guanajuato, the Secretary of Agro-Food and Rural Development –SDAyR- supported producers from the community of La Sandia with a cold room, in Leon.
Paulo Banuelos Rosales, secretary of the SDAyR, went to the community where he was able to confirm that the cultivation of this flower is very productive and profitable.
“I am very pleased to see that they have found a great opportunity in this crop, the ornamental sunflower flower, which we gladly decided to support as instructed by of our governor, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, because here in Guanajuato the small businesses, and especially those in the countryside, which are no doubt very valuable production units”, said the Secretary.
The refrigerated chamber delivered today will allow the sunflower production to be preserved; it is the first stage of the entire project led by Osvaldo Rodriguez, who thanked the State Government for the support
This is not a very demanding plant in terms of soil quality. It grows well in most textures, although it prefers clay-sandy soils. In addition, it does not require a fertility as high as other crops to obtain an acceptable yield, just good drainage, making it a very profitable crop.
The investment was for $1,426,324 pesos in the acquisition of the cold storage space, of which the SDAyR and beneficiaries contributed 50% each, that is, $713,162. The benefit will be for eight production units, 30 hectares, and will generate 35 direct jobs.
